Myron Wharton “Squatty” Lowell, 85, a native of Fairhope and a resident of Metairie, La., for 58 years, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009.
He was born Nov. 25, 1924 and grew up in Fairhope. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps serving as a pilot and gunnery instructor, retiring with the rank of major.
He was a graduate of the class of 1949 from Auburn University with a degree in building construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Gordon Lowell, and a brother, James R. Lowell,
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Harriet Norman Lowell; three daughters Harriet Lowell (Norm) Stafford, Marcella Louise Lowell, Martha Lowell (Rick) Villavaso; son, Andrew Myron Lowell; two sisters, Jeane Lowell Bodden and Betty Lowell Cummings; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at noon Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Unity Temple Church, 3722 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie, La.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the World War II Museum or Habitat for Humanity, 600 Press St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
