Longtime Robertsdale pharmacist dies at age 81

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Longtime Robertsdale pharmacist W.A. “Bill” Rawls died Saturday, July 9, 2011. He was 81.

He owned and operated Lee Drug Store for 51 years.

A graduate of W.S. Neal High School, he was a graduate of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (later Auburn University) in 1953 and was an avid Auburn Tigers fan.

He was an active member of the Robertsdale United Methodist Church, past Rotary Club member and served on the Robertsdale City Council in the 1960s.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 11 at Mack Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12 at the Robertsdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kelly Brown and the Rev. Steve Spining officiating.

He was preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Steve Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Fountain Rawls of Robertsdale; daughter, Donna (Kelly) Brown of Summerdale; grandchildren, Ryan and Kelsey Brown, Whitney Baker and Steven Wayne “Rocky” Baker II; sister, Virginia Dewrell of Mobile; sister-in-law, Nell Rawls of Pensacola, Fla.; nieces, Wanda (Al) Hampton and Janet (Brad) Newhall, both of Pensacola, and Paula Tillman of Andalusia; cousins and other relatives.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Robertsdale United Methodist Church School Ministry or Food Pantry, P.O. Box 866, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
