Four local students are among 25 Alabamians who have accepted appointments to U.S. service academies as members of the Class of 2030, according to an announcement from U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville.

Tuberville, R-AL, nominated the students for appointments to one of four service academies: the United States Air Force Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy and United States Naval Academy. The appointments mark Tuberville’s fifth round of service academy nominations since taking office, a news release said.

Among the local students receiving appointments are:

United States Military Academy

• Taylor George Aboud of Mobile, a student at Kwajalein High School and son of Kristian and Mary Aboud.

• Stanley Hawkins McConnell of Mobile, a student at UMS-Wright Preparatory School and son of Stan and Anna McConnell.

United States Air Force Academy

• Zoey Alexis Smith of Daphne, a student at Daphne High School and daughter of Charles and Josie Smith.

United States Merchant Marine Academy

• Lillian Yasmin Moreno of Daphne, a student at Fairhope High School and daughter of Antionette Moreno.

“America’s national security depends on brave young men and women who answer the call to serve in our armed forces,” Tuberville said in the release. “I am so proud of the appointees that will represent Alabama in our military service academies for the Class of 2030. Receiving an appointment to one of these academies requires grit, dedication, and commitment, and I’m confident these students will carry these values with them to our service academies. It was an honor to nominate these young Alabamians for an appointment, and I have full faith that they’ll continue to make our state and country proud.”
