Local student excels in the classroom and in the rodeo arena

Raven Simpson, the daughter of Terry and Ann Simpson, an eighth grade honor student at Central Baldwin Middle School, received the U.S. President’s Award for Educational Excellence by maintaining an A average throughout her sixth through eighth grade middle school years. She also recently qualified for the National Jr. Rodeo Finals. She will be traveling with the Alabama Wrangler Junior High Rodeo team to Gallup, N.M., from June 29 through July 8 to compete in barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. Featuring more than 900 contestants from 44 states, Canada, and Australia, the Wrangler Junior High Finals is the world’s largest junior high rodeo.
