ELBERTA — State Street Coffee and Ice Cream is now open in downtown Elberta.

The storefront is owned by Candice Bass along with Brett, Robert and Drew Harrison. They have owned a local construction company for about 30 years and originally bought the building on State Street for office space. However, only a small portion of is being used as their company office.

Grace Mathis, an assistant of the company said they asked the community what they wanted the rest of the building to be, which resulted in a new place to get caffeine or a sweet treat.

On the coffee side, their beans are sourced from Crimson Cup Coffee out of Ohio, and they serve a classic lineup of lattes, espressos, cold brews and ice blended drinks. Their drink specials include the Sandy Creek Latte, a vanilla and caramel latte that can be enjoyed hot, iced or blended.

On the ice cream side, they serve around 24 flavors, offering both soft serve and scooped ice cream. They also offer an ice cream parfait they call Sweet Layers, allowing patrons to build whatever kind of parfait using whatever flavor they like.

Outside of the coffee and ice cream, State Street has a lounge area to hang out or get work done while enjoying your menu item of choice. They also have a larger space in the back they plan to use for events such as local markets. Bass said there are not a lot of areas for people to meet up in Elberta and that they hope to become a gathering place for the community.

Mathis said in the next few weeks, they plan to team up with the Benjamin Thomas Werner Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to fentanyl and drug abuse awareness. They will offer a specialty ice cream every month, with 50% of the proceeds going toward the foundation.

“We just want everyone to come give us a try, come check us out, and we hope they’ll be impressed and find a great place to hang out,” Bass said.

State Street Coffee and Ice Cream is located at 24893 State St. and is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
