Members of five Baldwin County chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution will gather this month at Historic Blakeley State Park to honor American Revolutionary War patriots.

The Baldwin Chapters, NSDAR, will hold a Marker Dedication Ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the historic park.

Amy F. Molyneux, regent of the Ecor Rouge Chapter, will present the event alongside Kate Eskesen, regent of the Bon Secour Chapter in Gulf Shores; Cathy Lee Irby, regent of the Fort Mims Chapter in Stockton; Lauren Williams, regent of the Fort Bowyer Chapter in Foley; and Patti B. Smith, regent of the Zachariah Godbold Chapter, NSDAR, of Bay Minette. Smith also serves as the Southern District Director for ASDAR.

The Alabama Society DAR is led by State Regent Malinda Williams and includes more than 4,400 women in 69 chapters across the state. Members can trace their lineage to patriots who fought for or provided aid to American colonists during the Revolutionary War.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a women's service organization whose members trace their lineage to individuals who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War.

Founded in 1890, DAR has grown to more than 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and abroad. More than 1 million members have joined the organization since its founding.

Today, DAR describes itself as a dynamic and diverse organization whose members provide millions of hours of volunteer service each year to communities across the country and around the world.

DAR chapters support projects focused on historic preservation, education and patriotism as part of the organization's ongoing community service efforts.
