Prep Baseball Report recently hosted its fourth Alabama All-State games at Troy University where a handful of local athletes were on display.

Out of the four teams created with top prospects from the Classes of 2023 to 2026, Spanish Fort’s Pierce Dutton and Bayside Academy’s Gatlin Pitts were on Team 1, Bayside’s Jack Woods was on Team 2 and Gulf Shores’ Connor Gehr and Daphne’s Tyler Sorrell competed on Team 3.

The players’ performances were statistically tracked by technology that showed their running speed, throwing numbers and batting metrics, among others.

Positionally, Pitts’ 60-yard dash time of 7.02 was eighth-best overall and Dutton was not far behind in 11th at 7.07 seconds. Pitts recorded the fastest infield throwing velocity at 93 mph and Gehr’s 81 mph was good for 10th. Behind the plate, Sorrell’s catcher velocity (73 mph) ranked 10th and his pop time range of 2.07-2.19 was the sixth-best.

Pitching-wise, Pitts’ fastball topped out at 89 mph (2nd overall) with an average spin rate of 2,387 rpm (2nd) and a max spin rate of 2,503 rpm (3rd). Gehr’s fastball reached a maximum of 85 mph (10th) with an average spin rate of 2,216 rpm (5th) and a max spin rate of 2,386 rpm (5th).

Woods registered a time of 7.35 seconds in the 60-yard dash and racked up an outfield velocity of 78 mpg. At the plate, his maximum hand speed of 24.6 mph registered eighth overall to go along with a maximum bat speed of 72.5 mph. Dutton’s max hand speed of 26.8 mph and bat speed of 81.8 mph were both second overall.

Dutton (19.9 mph for 7th) and Pitts (19.8 mph for 8th) were neck and neck in max running speed just ahead of Woods’ 19.2 mph maximum. Vertically, Pitts’ jump power of 1,751 ranked fifth overall and his jump height of 29.6 inches was seventh. Dutton (1,575 jump power, 27.2-inch vertical) and Woods (1,555 jump power, 24.8-inch vertical) were not far behind.

Pitts will soon have another Toro as a teammate during the PBR Future Games at the end of the month in Class of 2024 catcher Jack Holley. The pair will represent Baldwin County, Alabama against uncommitted C/O 2024 athletes and select C/O 2025 prospects from PBR’s network of more than 40 states plus Canada at LakePoint in Emerson, Ga., July 27-30.

LakePoint will also be hosting the Southeast Senior Games for the top uncommitted prospects from the Class of 2023 July 25. Alabama representatives will compete against teams from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Kentucky and a Mid-Atlantic squad. Dutton was tagged as a potential player to watch but rosters have not been released yet.

Earlier this week, Coastal Alabama Community College – South hosted PBR’s South Alabama Games which featured a strong contingency of local athletes, including five Gulf Shores Dolphins, four Daphne Trojans, four Fairhope Pirates, three Bayshore Christian Eagles, two Foley Lions and one Bayside Academy Admiral, Baldwin County Tiger, Orange Beach Mako and Robertsdale Golden Bear each.

Gulf Shores will be represented by rising seniors Spencer Holmes (outfield) and Dominic Maldet (catcher), rising juniors Jackson Beck (outfield) and Alex King (second baseman) and rising eighth-grader Larson Chafin (pitcher). Daphne sent Parker Lomax (Class of 2023 pitcher), Cooper Nix (C/O 2024 shortstop), Jack Blanchard (C/O 2026 pitcher) and Timothy Fitzhugh (C/O 2027 second baseman).

Fairhope’s rising sophomores Rock Gerhart (catcher) and Miles Drew Johnson (pitcher) were joined by rising freshman Ashton Mosley (shortstop) and rising eighth-grader Jackson Horn (pitcher).

From Bayshore Christian, rising sophomores Jace Jones (outfield) and Jack Malone (catcher) were joined by rising eighth-grader Frank Mercante (catcher) and from Foley came Austin Heiden (C/O 2025 outfielder) and Payton Raulerson (C/O 2023 catcher).

Carson Joyner (C/O 2024 third baseman) was Bayside Academy’s lone representative, as was rising sophomore catcher Myles Davis for Baldwin County High. Rounding out the local representatives included Orange Beach’s Logan Kruse (C/O 2026 pitcher) and Robertsdale’s Andrew McDaniel (C/O 2025 pitcher).
