Joseph “Tot” Lieb, born in 1923 in Baltimore, a resident of Fairhope since 1994, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his home.

He served as a chief petty officer on board the U.S.S. Briareus during World War II and he retired from Maryland Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company where he worked his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph and Theresa Lieb, two brothers, John and Robert Lieb, and two sisters, Eva Wuest and Margaret Deuringer.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elinor Bennett Lieb; two sisters, Elizabeth Manke and Madeline Laidler, both of Baltimore; two sons, Jordan (Pam) Lieb of Fairhope and Jay (Susan) Lieb of Arnold, Md.; two daughters, Julie Theresa Lieb of Severna Park, Md., and Jane-Adair Seleski of Linthicum, M.; and six grandchildren, Jon (Ashley) Lieb of Daphne, Chris (Ashley) Lieb of Birmingham, Dusty Lieb of Boston, Dani Lieb of Arnold, Md., Joe and Josh Seleski of Linthicum, Md.

A memorial service was Thursday, May 28 at Holy Lutheran Church in Daphne.

The Lieb family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospice, Heavenly Sent and to those individuals who personally attended to his needs. Their kindness and loving care will never be forgotten.
