Library announces summer reading program top readers

DAPHNE — The Daphne Public Library’s summer reading program had area children participate in story-time, crafts and other library activities through June.

Children kept track of individual reading logs. The programs and reading logs encouraged young library detectives to “Get a Clue” — this year’s slogan — by reading mysteries and other books during the summer break.

The top three readers from each group will be recognized at the Aug. 6 City Council meeting, to be held 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Mayor Fred Small, along with Councilmen John Lake and Gus Palumbo, will present a medal to each top reader.

The top readers of this year’s summer reading program are as follows:

• Preschool: First Place, Karahma Willingham; Second Place, Gavin Jordan; and Third Place, Lauren Hare.

• Juniors (kindergarten through second grade): First Place, Grace Robbins; Second Place, Corey O’Neal; and Third Place, Amber Burke.

• Tweens (third grade through fifth grade): First Place, Aren Valerie; Second Place, Kelsie Weaver; and Third Place, Jordan Carter.

This year’s summer reading program was sponsored by the Friends of the Daphne Library and a grant by the Alabama Council on the Arts.
