GULF SHORES — Aesop wrote a lot of fables. Hundreds.
Still, director Sharon Watson had to write just a few more tales to accommodate all 40 cast members in South Baldwin Community Theatre's upcoming production of "A Bagful of Fables."
The show, which is part of the theater's Young Artist Series, opens tonight and runs through April 23.
Each performance will weave through 10 of the Greek storyteller's tales, including "The Tortoise and the Hare" and "The Fox and the Grapes."
Tying the production together is River Hallex as the narrator, who has appeared on several stages across Baldwin County, most recently as Seymour in Exit Stage Left's fall production of "Little Shop of Horrors."
The production will also sponsor a fundraiser for the Safe Harbor Animal Coalition. The cast of each of the theater's children's shows chooses a charity to raise money for. Watson said giving back is an important part of the experience.
"They realize the importance of teamwork by putting on the show, but we're also supported by the community and the kids learn to support other community projects," Watson said. "I think it's important that they know giving to others is the best feeling they can get."
The show is assistant directed by Linda Miller. Caymen Russell serves as student assistant.
