GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Gulf Shores Dolphins outscored the LeFlore Rattlers 24-15 in the fourth period but it wasn’t enough, falling 66-63 in Class 5A Area 2 play.
The Dolphins fell to 5-14 overall and 0-4 in area play, but head coach Dru Powell saw signs that his team was getting better.
“I tell you what, I was proud of our guys, the way that they battled for 32 minutes,” Powell said. “They played as hard as they could. I feel like we got better as a team tonight. We didn’t win the game but I definitely feel like our team got better.”
LeFlore led 20-11 at the end of the first period and had a 37-29 lead at the half. Brandon Silvers had 12 of his game-high 29 points in the first half. He had 13 points in the fourth period to help the Dolphins’ late push.
“Brandon played well,” Powell said. “We know he is capable of doing that. Hopefully he can continue that hot streak for us. He’s a good player and hopefully he can continue to play well.”
Ryan Godwin added 11 points for Gulf Shores, including a three-pointer at the buzzer in the fourth.
Gulf Shores hosts Spanish Fort at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in area play.

The Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins fell to 14-7 overall and 2-2 in 5A Area 2 play with a 40-23 loss to LeFlore on Friday.
LeFlore held 17-0 lead in the first period before Meagan Davis hit two free throws at the 30 seconds left in the period. The Lady Rattlers led 27-8 at the half and 40-12 after the third period.
Laura Peavy led Gulf Shores with 12 points. The Lady Dolphins host Spanish Fort in area play on Friday at 6 p.m.
