Finding ways to give back in Baldwin County may soon become easier thanks to a new initiative aimed at connecting residents with local nonprofit organizations in need of volunteers.
Lee Charities is encouraging residents to “Join the Crew. Plug Into Purpose. Get involved today.”
The organization recently announced the launch of the Volunteer Switchboard, a centralized platform designed to link community members of all ages with volunteer opportunities throughout Baldwin County. According to a news release, the initiative is intended to strengthen communication between volunteers and nonprofits while helping organizations quickly fill volunteer needs.
The Volunteer Switchboard allows residents to sign up for updates about volunteer opportunities from participating nonprofit groups across the county. Organizers said the service is designed to simplify the process for people looking to support causes important to them while also helping nonprofit organizations expand their reach without the added challenge of maintaining their own volunteer databases.
“Lee Charities is pleased to bring this service to the community,” Mitchell Lee, president of Lee Charities, said in the release. “We know residents of Baldwin County believe in giving back, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to do so.”
Volunteers who join the program will become part of the “Volunteer Crew” and will receive periodic email updates featuring opportunities to serve throughout Baldwin County. Participants also will receive a free “Volunteer Crew” T-shirt upon joining.
Organizers emphasized that participant information will remain secure and only be used to share volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can decide which opportunities they would like to pursue.

The platform is also designed to assist nonprofit organizations by giving them direct access to a broader network of potential volunteers. Nonprofits can submit volunteer requests through the program, and opportunities will then be shared directly with Volunteer Crew members.
“Leaders of nonprofits already have so much on their plate,” said Penny Hughey, director of community development. “We hope this service helps ease the burden of finding volunteers and allows them to focus on their mission.”

Volunteer-driven programs play a major role in supporting community services across Baldwin County, where nonprofits often rely heavily on local involvement to assist with food distribution, education, disaster relief, youth programs and community outreach efforts. Organizers said the Volunteer Switchboard is intended to strengthen those efforts by making it easier for residents and organizations to connect.
