DAPHNE, Ala.— Lawrence T. Yelding was named interim football coach and athletic director Tuesday afternoon. Yelding has been a defensive line and linebackers coach at Daphne. He  has also been the varsity softball coach at Daphne. Pitching coach Brittany Castillow will take over the head-coaching duties on an interim basis with assistant coaches Jim Hinton and Jared Gilliland.

The head football coach and athletic director job will be advertised, interviews will be conducted and recommendations for a hire will be made. DHS principal Meredith Foster will present her recommendation to the Baldwin County Board of Education for final approval.

In a statement released to the media Tuesday by the Baldwin County Board of Education, Daphne High athletic director and head football coach Glenn Vickery announced his retirement. Vickery stated:

"I would like to thank the Baldwin County School System for the opportunities they have provided our family for 15 years.  I have worked for three wonderful principals, Mr. Barry Pennington, Mr. Don Blanchard, and Dr. Meredith Foster.

"I have had the pleasure of working side by side with some of the best educators in the country. I will truly be indebted to all the coaches, players, and staff that I have had the honor and privilege to work with at Daphne High School. Effective today I am retiring from the Baldwin County Public School System.

"Nancy and I have discussed and prayed about retirement for about a year and we feel like this is the right time. Daphne High School will always have a special place in our heart and we wish them the best as they move forward. Once a Trojan, Always a Trojan."

Vickery took over the Daphne AD and head football coaching position in 2004. He led the Trojans to the Class 6A state championship game twice in his 11 seasons. DHS claimed the championship in 2010 and took the runner-up trophy in 2005. Vickery also led the Trojans to six region titles and finishes with a 107-41 record at Daphne. He was also the AD and head football coach at Davidson for four years and earlier at Mobile Christian for 15 years. He also coached basketball at Daphne before taking over athletics at Davidson.

Vickery was placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 22 according to a statement released by the Baldwin County Board of Education pending a review that was closed Monday with the following update:

The Baldwin County Board of Education human resources review is complete. Background: Employees are placed on paid administrative leave when there is a question whether board policies and procedures have been followed. The details of human resource reviews are not available because the employee has due process rights that are still current.
