Lawrence Patrick Thomas, a native and lifelong resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on Oct. 27, 2021. 

A graduate of Fairhope High School in 1963, Lawrence (known as Larry to some) was married to his loving wife Jan for over 56 years. He was an active and influential part of the Fairhope community, including his leadership with the Fairhope Single Tax Colony and the Thomas Hospital Foundation.  He was chairman of the board of Thomas Roofing, a business that he founded and managed with his sons. A loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by all that knew him. He truly lived by the motto he taught his grandkids “sweetness counts.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Houlton Thomas, Sr., and Jacquelin Arnold McKean.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Mims Thomas; sons, Derek (Dawn) Thomas, Kyle (Emily) Thomas, and Cory (Holly) Thomas; grandchildren, Kayla (John), Sara, Bradley (Campbell), David, Ashley, Jared, Benjamin, Addison, Fuller and Annie Mims; great-grandchildren, McLane and Eloise; his siblings, Mary Sue Bing, Arthur (Mary) Thomas, Jr., Lorraine (John Cotte) Thomas, Gayle Shackelford, Hawkins (Elaine) Thomas and Neal (Julie) Thomas and many relatives.

A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope Chapel. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
