Beachside memorial service for Lawrence “Larry” Lea Jones, 69, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Gulf State Park (East Pavilion) in Gulf Shores.

Mr. Jones died at his home on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 in Orange Beach. It was the same day as he and his beloved wife, Cissy’s (deceased), 47th wedding anniversary. A native of Baton Rouge, Larry has been a resident of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for the past 16 years. Larry attended Centenary College in Shreveport, where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and received his LLM in Tax Law from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Larry practiced law in Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Judge Advocate in Texas, Germany and Thailand, achieving the grade of Lt. Colonel at his retirement from the Air Force. After completing his active duty in the Air Force he and his family were residents of Shreveport where he was a partner with Blanchard Walker Law Firm. In 1996 he and Cissy moved to Gulf Shores where he began his own legal practice. He became involved in the local community, including the Kiwanis, the chamber of commerce and many various projects. Survivors include daughter Traci and her husband Jeff Fisher; and their sons Christopher and Benjamin of Gulf Shores; son, Brian and his children, Addison, Berk and Quinn of Baton Rouge; sister, Sharon Kelly of Baton Rouge, and brother William Issac Jones (Ann) of Falls Church, Va. His close family extends to his nieces and nephews, Michelle Kelly of Baton Rouge; Elizabeth K. Eggleston, Mark Kidd, Texas and daughter-in-law, Julie Jones of Baton Rouge. Larry will be remembered for his kind-hearted attitude to his family and friends, his readiness to be present and celebrate the many blessings of his life and those around him and his professionalism in his work. He will be greatly missed by all.
