Monday night at the Fairhope City Council meeting there was much discussion about noise ordinances (12-3, 4 and 5) and some additional discussion about an ordinance covering hours of operation of drinking establishments within 200 feet of a zoned residential area, Ordinance 4-2. All of these ordinances are current, and yet they are not being enforced.
The council decided to issue a 60-day moratorium on the ordinances during which time they will not be enforced while the council takes some time to study the issue.
The city attorney mentioned in his comments during the meeting that there were 25 businesses in the city that were affected by the hours of sale ordinance (4-2), which means there are a lot of citizens of Fairhope affected as well. As one of those citizens, I am currently trying to get that list of businesses made public so the citizens impacted by these businesses can have an opportunity to make their concerns known to the council.
