ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – Robertsdale senior Kent Langham must have listened to his coach’s advice to shoot more, because Langham hit four three-pointers in Tuesday night’s game against the ranked Hillcrest Jaguars (12-2). The Robertsdale Bears (7-6) knocked off the Jaguars 67-64.

Tuesday night’s thriller began with an error that could have sealed a win for the ranked Jaguars. With the game tied at 56 and less than half a minute left, the Jaguars made a crucial communication error that led to an out of bounds pass that gave possession back to the Bears with 15 seconds remaining in regular time. The Bears ran down the clock to have the final shot, but missed causing the game to go into an extra session.

The Jaguars made back-to-back two-point plays making the score 60-56 with just under two minutes remaining in overtime. The Jaguars fouled Robertsdale senior Cordero Dade who made both free throws and cut the deficit to two points. Moments later, Langham made a clutch three-point shot shifting the lead to the Bears at 61-60. With half a minute left, the Bears reached their tenth foul, giving an opportunity for the Jaguars to take the lead. However, the Jaguars made only one of the free throws and sent the game into double overtime at 61-61.

“Some of my teammates were having off nights. We had to remember why we play. We had to let go of the stress and just play the game we love,” said Langham.

The Bears won the tip off of the second overtime period and ran the clock down to just under three minutes until the Jaguars made their tenth team foul allowing Langham to make the score 63-61.

“We kept drawing up plays in overtime,” said Robertsdale head coach Marshall Davis. “I had a lot of help from my other two coaches. Finally, we came up with a fouling technique that helped us run down the clock and go to the line every time we had possession of the ball.”

The Bears fouled the Jaguars with under two minutes remaining. The Jaguars made both free throws, tying the game at 63. The Bears continued to run down the clock until the Jaguars fouled, eventually leading the score to 65-63. The Bears then fouled the Jaguars giving them an opportunity to tie the game. The Jaguars made both free throws, but one was revoked due to a lane violation. The Bears were fouled and shot two more free throws, ending the game with a win of 67-64 over their ranked opponent.

“This win is very significant to me,” said Davis. “This is the first time since I have been coaching here that we have beaten a ranked team. I am very proud of my team.”

Langham led Robertsdale in scoring with 20 points followed by junior Dionta Banks with 14 points.

The Bears will go on a three-game road trip for the Jim N’ Nicks Christmas Tournament in Jasper kicking off Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.
