DAPHNE, Ala. – Six players scored in double figures as the Lady Trojans took a 64-53, 6A Area 3 win over visiting Robertsdale at Daphne Friday night.
Sierra Patterson scored 20 points, Amber Yelding 12 and Kirsten Henton 10 for the Lady Trojans as Daphne improved to 9-5, 2-1 in 6A Area 3.
Madeleine Petite led the Lady Golden Bears with 14 points scored, Sheila Dailey added 13 and Kellen Shirley 12 for the Robertsdale girls, who dropped to 3-12, 1-3 with the loss.
Daphne head coach Scott Smith said the area win was big, but his team still needs to work on some things.
“It's a good thing after a tough loss to Fairhope. Proud of the effort. I thought Sierra had a real good game for us overall tonight. But we still need to improve on free throws and stop getting in foul trouble. We're making progress but, we also need to finish better and we just haven't learned that yet, but we will.”
Smith said the Golden Bears never gave up and kept the pressure up all night.
“Some things never change and one of those is that Robertsdale still plays very, very hard. Coach (Scott) Harville does a great job. When we were up 14, they could have just quit but they didn't and that's a credit to him.”
The Lady Trojans built a 35-23 lead at the half, but Robertsdale closed to with six in the third before Daphne answered to take a 10 point lead 45-35 into the final period. Daphne was 10-of-19 in free-throw attempts.
Robertsdale went 7-for-14 at the line.
Daphne visits Robertsdale for a rematch Friday.
