MOBILE — The Daphne Lady Trojans had a good showing Saturday in the Battle of Old Shell Road with a runner-up finish against the No. 1-Ranked 5A St. Paul's Saints. The semifinals and the title match were held at UMS-Wright, just down Old Shell Road from St. Paul's. There, Bayside Academy ranked No. 1 in 3A also went undefeated in pool play and topped a top Louisiana team, North Shore, in two games in the quarterfinals before falling to St. Paul's in the semis 25-19, 25-19.
Daphne coach Kay Flarity was proud of her team and pleased to see them playing well at this point in the season.
"We had a great tourney," she said. "It all seemed to click for us this weekend. The girls were passing well, so we could run our offense the way we like to. The girls played as a team and together they were able to perform well. I was very pleased with the way the team looked."
