Lady Trojans' big second half seals win over Fairhope

DAPHNE—It was a tale of good halves and a bad halves for both teams with Daphne's Lady Trojans netting the better half from the difference for a 4-1 region win over the Lady Pirates at Jubilee Stadium Tuesday.

Rianna Gurvitz and Rachael Lane scored twice each and traded assists on each other's goals in the second half for Daphne after Fairhope went up in the first half off Breanne Jones goal and held on for the 1-0 lead at intermission.

The win improved Daphne to 10-3-1 overall and 9-1 in 6A Region 2 one game behind McGill-Toolen Catholic's 10-0 Region 2 record. Fairhope dropped to 6-3 with earlier one-goal losses to McGill-Toolen (1-0) and to Daphne 2-1 (2-1). The Trojans region loss was to Mc-T (2-1).

“The girls, well, the first half was kind of an ugly game,” said DHS coach Rick Andrew. “It was kind of like we were testing each other out there for a while and then they got a good, quick corner early and then we had a chance to score but didn't. Their keeper (Morgan Grace)

is very good and did a great job but I told my girls at the half, OK they won the first half, now lets see what we can do in the second. And they went out and turned on the pressure and then turned it up some more.

“And I always feel all along this year that our girls are mentally strong but sometimes it takes that first goal to crack the ice, if you will, and get them going. And I think that's kind of what happened tonight. One turned into two and three into four. I'm so proud of

them, specially these seniors. They persevered and learned to deal with having to play hurt early on, but they never complain. They just play and are great leaders for out younger girls.”

The Pirates will host the Yellow Jacket girls Tuesday at 7 p.m., at

Fairhope Municipal Stadium. The Trojans travel for another swat at the

Jackets April 17 at Lipscomb Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
