MOBILE, Ala.—Spanish Fort’s girls won the varsity division of Cottage Hill Christian School’s annual Warrior Challenge held at Medal of Honor Park Saturday. The Toros ladies defeated Baker 31-47 and the host team Warriors finished in third.

Baker’s Hornets just edged Spanish Fort 38-36 for the boys title with the Warriors also in third with a 58.

Caroline Cumbest of Cottage Hill Christian was the individual winner running a 21:36.24 and Baker’s veteran Carsandra Pickens was second in 22:14.22. But SFHS placed five runners in the top 10 to clinch the girls team crown behind Hannah Frain in third (22:16.36); Carrisa Jones, fourth (22:40.96); Sophie Bengel, sixth (24:03.11) Sarah Carrico, eighth (24:05.56) and Katrina Garofano in 10th with a 24:38.48.  

Baker’s Collin Wood ran an 18:31.27 for the individual boys win. The fastest Toro of the day was Matthew Piedra who turned in a fourth-place time of 18:46.32 just ahead of SF teammate Will Kent’s 18:47.09 in fifth and Kevin Jones’ time of 18:59.44 which was good for seventh. Only about 30 seconds separated first and 10th place.
