SPANISH FORT, Ala. — The Spanish Fort women’s basketball team used a swarming defense to dispose of Citronelle High School Friday night by a score of 58-24.

The Lady Toros raced out to a 17-4 advantage midway through the second quarter, and they never looked back.

Spanish Fort had 18 steals throughout the game, using an aggressive, opportunistic full-court defense that created turnover after turnover and caused fits for the Lady Wildcats.

“We lost to Gulf Shores on Tuesday, and the girls were not happy about that,” Lady Toros coach Justin Moore said. “We re-focused ourselves defensively. The intensity for the entire game was there. We mixed it up between half-court press and full-court press.”

Katie Godfrey led the Lady Toros offense with 18 points, while Elaine Woods added 11 points and Brianna Owens chipped in nine points.

Allison Whitley, Elissa Vandewaa and Jackie Smith combined for 10 steals for Spanish Fort.

“It was a true team effort,” Moore said about the victory.

Brooklyn Weaver led the Lady Wildcats offensively with 10 points.
