FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The 6A Area 3 volleyball season got under way Tuesday for the Fairhope Lady Pirates and Foley’s Lady Lions in Fairhope. The Pirates won the match 3-0 in straight games 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15.
The young Lady Lions struggled at the service line while the more experienced Pirates served eight aces and had multiple point-runs in each game.
On the Fairhope stat sheet, Brittney Domino had four aces and five digs. Katie Bayley added three three service winners with 15 assists. Sabriah Crenshaw led in digs with nine. Kathleen Stone set for eight assists. Bailey Epperson had two blocks and two kills. The Fairhope attack was led by Katelyn Hayes’s 10 kills supported by Ellie Johnson and Rickie Lee Constant with six each.
The Lions were led on defense by libero Amanda Brett, Cassidy Dillon and Nadia Johnson. Laura Kate Laurendine, Katelyn Ebert, Karolina Alexander, Valerie Davis and Johnson all played well for Foley at the net.
Area 3 is the only five-team area in the state in Class 6A with Baldwin County, Daphne, Fairhope, Foley and Robertsdale each vying for one of only two post-area-tournament playoff spots. Robertsdale is the defending Area 3 champion. Daphne took the runner-up spot in 2012.
Fairhope is hosting their annual Back-to-School Bash tournament Friday and Saturday and will host Robertsdale Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Foley is playing in the Bash tournament and then travels to Gulf Shores High Tuesday for a, 5:30 p.m., match with the Lady Dolphins at “The Tank.”
