FOLEY, Ala. – When leading scorer Brittney Davis fouled out with 14 points midway through the fourth period, Foley coach Chad Anderson hoped senior forward Philly Adams would step up in her absence.
That’s just what happened, as Adams scored five points and gave the Lady Lions the lead twice in the fourth on the way to a 37-34 win over Robertsdale’s Lady Golden Bears. Adams finished with 15 rebounds, seven points and five steals.
“We have struggled all season to find some senior leadership,” Anderson said. “When Brittney Davis fouled out, Philomene (Adams) stepped up and took control of the game. She was determined to get the victory for us.”
Foley trailed until the 4:30 mark in the fourth, when Adams hit a two-point basket to give the Lady Lions a 30-29 lead. After an Adams free throw, Kristina Parks extended Foley’s lead to 33-29 with another two-point basket.
Robertsdale regained the lead at 1:10 on a basket from Sheila Daily, but Adams took the lead back with 47 seconds to play with another basket. Parks hit two free throws to ice the game with 8 seconds left.
“If we can continue to play like this, it will be like a rollercoaster ride,” Anderson said. “This is what we have been going for all season.”
Davis led all scorers with 14 points, and Parks added 12 points for Foley (2-14, 1-2 in Area 3). Daily led Robertsdale (3-10, 1-2 in Area 3) with 11 points, and Madeleine Petitte had 10 in the loss.
Both teams are back in action tonight at 6 p.m., with Foley visiting Fairhope and Robertsdale playing at Daphne.
