Lady Dolphins, Golden Bears battle to triple overtime in Southern Shootout final

DAPHNE, Ala.—Gulf Shores and Robertsdale met in the girls final of the Southern Shootout Premier Flight at Al Trione Park in Daphne Saturday and battled to a 0-0 tie in regulation. Two overtimes went without a sudden-death goal before the Dolphins prevailed 3-2 in a shootout to record the official win 1-0.

Summer Byrd, Morgan Campbell and Madison Dickerson scored shootout PKs for Gulf Shores while Kara Wells and Madelyn Wells struck for the Golden Bears.

Robertsdale had a chance to tie the PK count but Dolphin goalkeeper Kayci Prohaska made her 17th save of the match to secure the win. Lindsey Davis finished with eight saves for RHS.

GSHS defeated Sylacauga 1-0, tied Foley 1-1 and Mary G. Montgomery 0-0. RHS outpaced Baldwin County High 5-1, topped Carroll 1-0 and tied Cullman 1-1.

 • In the Cup Flight Auburn averaged seven goals-scored per game and allowed just 0.25 gpg to dominate the girls side of the Southern Shootout and claim the Cup trophy.

The Plains’ Tigers shutout Daphne in the title match 9-0, and earlier blanked Fairhope 9-0 and McGill-Toolen 5-0. Auburn suffered one imperfection in a 5-1 win over Faith Academy Friday. Sarah Thorne earned the shutouts in goal for the Lady Tigers.

In other final-round play McGill-Toolen outscored Fairhope 2-0 in the Cup Flight consolation final.

Annie Addison and Ferrin Coleman each scored once for the Yellow Jackets with each goal assisted by Geri Langham. Mc-T keeper Eva Knapstein got the shutout with eight saves.

 The Pirates Molly Parker recorded 13 saves in goal for Fairhope which defeated Faith Academy’s Lady Rams 1-0 earlier on a goal by Haley Melton. McGill-Toolen shut-out Daphne 4-0 Friday.
