DANVILLE, Ala. – Bayside senior Izzy Harrison led the Lady Admirals to a fifth-place finish in a 15-field team.
Harrison was 18th overall clocking a 21:08.94 pace over the 3.1 mile course.
Karisa Nelson of T.R. Miller led all with a winning time of 18:41.54.
Miller was second behind Rogers in first, Montgomery Academy was third and Randolph edged the Lady Admirals by 23 points.
The Lady Admirals were odds-on favorites to place high in the final team standing at state this year, but with an early season-ending injury to all-state runner Charlotte Gill, the Bayside girls were forced to run without her and still handled the pressure well.
The Admirals did not qualify for the boys state meet this year, but freshman Ryan Shankle turned in an impressive 17:46.83 and 10th place to medal and make all-state as an unattached individual.
Hudson Robb of Randolph was the 3A boys champion with a 16:29.20 winning time. Randolph also won the boys 3A team title.
Class 6A
The Fairhope boys and girls each took 15th in the Class 6A state cross country championships at the Oakville Indian Mounds and Museum State Park near Danville Saturday. Daphne boys and Foley's girls each finished 17th in their divisions in a pair of 18-team fields plus unattached elite runners from around the state.
Shawn Hinton led the Pirates with a 28th overall time of 17 minutes,05.34 seconds to lead the Baldwin County boys contingent. Brandon Hazouri of Spain Park won in 15:45.12.
Hannah Evans of Fairhope had the best 6A finish for Baldwin-based competitors taking 36th overall in a time of 20:33.86. Carmen Carlos of McGill-Toolen won the girls 6A title with a 17:49.70 first-place time. Carlos' teammate Sage Blackwell of Fairhope was third overall with a 19:05.37 finish.
Mountain Brook swept the girls and boys titles in 6A. McGill-Toolen was second in the girls and fifth in the boys divisions.
Daphne coach Joe Hutchins said the experience was both a reward and an incentive for next year.
"It's a great experience for the kids," Hutchins said. "Great event. Fun for the kids to travel some. Right now, a state championship just is not in us. But the kids work hard all year to get this far and this helped them see how much more work it takes to do even better. But they get the feel for it and getting here makes them want to get back and do better."

Scottsboro swept the class 5A boys and girls divisions in the state cross country championships at the Oakville Indian Mounds and Museum State Park near Danville Saturday.
