Knives, gun detained at Baldwin County courthouses

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department courthouse security team detained 491 knives and one gun between October and December at the county’s three courthouses, according to a quarterly report released last week by Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack.

About 70,000 people entered the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette and satellite courthouses in Foley and Fairhope, according to the report.

A synopsis of the report is as follows:

Bay Minette

• Knives: 232

• Guns: 1

• Other: 235

• Arrests: 26

• People entering courthouse: 43,768

Fairhope

• Knives: 134

• Guns: 0

• Other: 224

• Arrests: 26

• People entering courthouse: 10,572

Foley

• Knives: 125

• Guns: 0

• Other: 39

• Arrests: 33

• People entering courthouse: 14,020

The “other” category refers to any object which security personnel consider a potential weapon. The arrests include people with outstanding warrants entering the courthouse, and arrest orders issued by judges.

Jury trials are held only in Bay Minette.
