James A. Kirchharr, 85, a resident of Uriah, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence.
He was a cook on a dredge boat, lived in Uriah and was born in Baldwin County and was a former resident of Bay Minette; was a member of Mineola Baptist Church and the American Legion; and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 1943 to January 1946.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Kirchharr; his parents Herman and Lela Kirchharr; two brothers, Gene Kirchharr and Jerry Kirchharr; and a sister, Laura Griffis.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Donnie Kirchharr of Uriah; son, Wayne (Linda) Kirchharr of Bay Minette; three sisters, Shirley (Larry) Weaver of Semirah Springs, Evia Hayles of Atmore and Wildred Perry of Leakesville, Miss.; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16 at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Tharpp and the Rev. Buddy Williams officiating. Burial followed at Semirah Springs Cemetery in Uriah.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 35236-1767.
