It’s Read Across America Week, a time to celebrate the joy of reading and inspire young minds.
Local libraries are rolling out storytimes, games and hands-on activities to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday and encourage kids to explore books in fun and creative ways. From whimsical crafts to interactive programs, this week offers plenty of opportunities for children to spark their imagination, build confidence and discover the magic of reading. Families will also find events of all kinds beyond Read Across America Week, from games and crafts to outdoor adventures and community activities, so there’s something to suit every interest.
These events are budget-friendly, so families can enjoy special moments without stretching their wallet.

What: Gulf Shores Public Library is hosting a fun, whimsical storytime celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' birthday. Attendees will meet Dr. Seuss characters, participate in Seuss-inspired crafts and activities, and enjoy themed snacks. The program highlights the joy of reading and encourages imagination, confidence and lifelong learning.

What: Summerdale Public Library will host its afterschool program with reading, arts and crafts, and refreshments. For Read Across America Week, the program will feature a Cat in the Hat game to honor Dr. Seuss' birthday.

What: Bay Minette Public Library is hosting Story Time with Word Bird, an interactive reading program designed to encourage early literacy through storytelling.
