Kenneth “Ken” Black

Kenneth “Ken” Black, a resident of Elberta, Alabama, went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born in Indianola, MS to Joe and Bertha Mae Black on March 3, 1941.

Mr. Black was a current parishioner of Crossway Baptist Church, Foley, Alabama. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Elberta until its closure. He attended and graduated from Indianola High School, Class of 1959, Mississippi Junior College, Moorhead, MS and Delta State College, Cleveland, MS. After college, Mr. Black served 20 years in the National Guard of which he retired. He moved to Pensacola and worked for the State of Florida, where he met his “sweetie”, Ms. Bernice, until his retirement. Ken worked for the Town of Elberta as a post retirement past time, cutting grass and shaping the face of his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bertha Mae Black, his devoted wife, Bernice Black; his only son, Kenny Black and a sister, Joan Hood of Clinton, MS.

His survivors include his sister, Dorothy Ashley of Pontotoc, MS; his only granddaughter, Sadie L. Black of Pell City, Alabama; two nieces, four nephews, as well as several extended family members and a grateful community.

A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held before sunset at 4:30 PM, March 11, 2023, at the Town Gazebo on Pine Street, Elberta followed by a fellowship at the Fireman's Hall on Chicago Street, Elberta.
