Balwin County Public Schools (BCPS) has several ongoing and recently completed projects across the district.

Chasity Riddick, communications coordinator for BCPS, said two major projects are the new elementary schools currently under construction.

Daphne Elementary, as previously reported by GCM in an article from 2023, is set to have upgrades including 20 new classrooms increasing the capacity to around 1,200. The school will transition to a K-6 school and the plan is to unify the building and connect all classrooms under one roof.

Loxley Elementary is to have an all-new building. BCPS Chief Financial Officer John Wilson was previously quoted in the GCM article as saying the current elementary school was outdated.

"We also recently opened the new Silverhill Elementary building mid-year and have seen additions and upgrades at several campuses, including improvements to athletic and fine arts facilities at our high schools," Riddick told GCM.

She said to also keep an eye on new projects such as an Early Learning Academy in Silverhill and a new middle school for Elberta. She said these projects were funded through a new "pay-as-you-go system" and do not cause any new taxes to be raised.
