Karen King Hiley Massey passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at home with her family.

Karen was born on Feb. 21, 1948 in Savannah, Georgia to Theodore James and Mary King Hiley. She grew up in Fairhope, Alabama and Moss Point, Mississippi where she graduated from high school in 1966.

She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and married her high school sweetheart, David C. Massey, on Aug. 3, 1969. She then studied dental hygiene at Pensacola Junior College and worked as a hygienist until the birth of their first son in 1975.

In the years that followed, Karen and David moved many times for his job, living in Lancaster, South Carolina, Anniston, Alabama, Germantown, Tennessee, Monroe, Louisiana and Birmingham, Alabama until finally settling in Spanish Fort in 2004.

Karen was a loving wife to David and a wonderful mother to her sons, Heath and Seth.

She took great pride in her eye for decorating and her ability to take any house and make it into a beautiful and inviting home.

She was actively involved in her sons' schools, in volunteer organizations like the United Way, and in her church, United Methodist of Spanish Fort.

She was an avid reader and was interested in fashion, antiques and flower gardening. She will be remembered especially for her warmth and kindness, her gentle spirit, her brilliant smile and her selfless devotion to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mary Hiley; and her in-laws, Clark and Maurice Massey.

She is survived, in her immediate family, by her husband, David; her sons, Seth and Heath (Elizabeth); and her grandson, Theo.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the SF United Methodist Church Men's Mission or the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
