Thelma Pilgrim Kaechele, 89, of Elberta, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007.

She was a native and lifelong resident of the Miflin community. She was a bookkeeper and parts runner for the family business. She loved cooking and her flower garden.

She was a life-long member of Swift Presbyterian Church and served in the past as the church pianist and Sunday School teacher. She was an American Red Cross First Aid instructor. She answered phone calls for the Contact South Baldwin Group.

She made deliveries for Meals on Wheels. She worked for the Clothes Closet to help other people and never said no when asked to make her famous sweet tea or coconut cream pies for a benefit or fund raiser.

She was preceded in death by as son, Jim Kaechele.

Survivors include her husband of over 71 years, John Kaechele Sr. of Elberta; five sons, John “Bud” (Marilyn) Kaechele of Elberta; Lex Kaechele of Elberta, Vernon (Deanna) Kaechele of Elberta, Chuck (Darlene) Kaechele of Elberta, and Corky (Annette) Kaechele of Elberta; four daughters, Elinor (Cecil) Gartman of Elberta, Joyce (Chick) Kaechele of Elberta, Lorraine (Richard) Rimer of Elberta, and Madelyn (Charles) Tucker of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; brother, Joe Pilgrim of Elberta; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held beginning at 9 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at Swift Presbyterian Church in Foley. Interment will follow at Swift Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. J. Michael Anderson officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Swift Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
