Junior Captains welcome to join worldwide adventure

ORANGE BEACH, AL — It’s a question Bo Cordle hears all the time.

“People want to know if we know how to sail around the world,” Bo said. “Of course we don’t. We’ve never sailed around the world.”

But he wants to bring a group of kids along for an educational ride.

“We want to teach kids about islands and people through video,” he said. “We’re going to try to do some pen pal stuff to connect kids on some random island with kids back here.”

And though it’s via video, it won’t be a video game.

“Things they won’t see in the living room on a video game,” Allison Cordle, Bo’s sailing partner and wife said.

The plan is to make in an interactive learning experience. Families can signup at juniorcaptains.com and follow the couple’s progress at sailingBA.com.

“Kids can follow us around the world,” Bo said. “We launched it to 15 kids in December and have been practicing with them. We’re going to do a relaunch in August. We’re going to focus on individual families. We’ll be doing lots of videos and instructional stuff.”

The kids won’t be the only ones learning, Bo said. Because he’s never sailed around the world each leg will be a new experience.

“I’ve sailed to the Keys so I know how to sail to the Keys,” he said. “From there we’ll figure out how to sail to the Bahamas and from there we’ll figure out how to go to the next place. We’ll take it one leg at the time.”
