Julius Myrick Cannon Jr., 80, a native of Mount Vernon and resident of Lillian, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.

Julius graduated from Citronelle High and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 44 years of service. In his second career, he was employed by Brett-Robinson.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lillian where he was an usher for many years, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Julius was passionate about running. He continued to run way into his 70s and was an original member of the LA Fleet Feet, a member of Bay Area Runners, Port City Pacers and Pensacola Runners.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne A. Cannon of Lillian; two daughters, Rebecca (Bob) Dunnavant of Saraland and Montez (Thomas) Smith of Mobile; four sons, Julius M. “Ricky” (Gwen) Cannon of Mobile, Britt Sartan of Mobile, Chris Sartan of Lucedale, Miss. and Steve Sartan of Lillian; two brothers, John Cannon (Suk) of Fort Walton Beach and Steve Cannon (Carolann) of Citronelle; a sister, Jo Anne Fagan (J.L.) of Fort Walton Beach; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Julius was an avid Auburn fan — War Eagle!

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at 11 am at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass.

Interment will follow at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Cemetery.
