Josephine “Jo” Marie Fosberg, 86, of Silverhill, Ala., passed away at her home on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 surrounded by family and loved ones. After a lengthy illness “Jo” now sings with the angels in her Saviour’s Heavenly Choir.
Josephine was born in Mobile, Ala. on Sept. 25, 1929 to Sam and Laura (Williams) Douglas. Soon after Jo graduated from Murphy High School, her family moved to Silverhill where she met Malcolm “Bub” Fosberg, who she married on April 15, 1948.
She joined the Silverhill Baptist Church when she arrived in Silverhill and also their choir. Her beautiful soprano voice could be heard every Sunday for 67 years. The church was special to Jo, and she worked tirelessly with the Girls Auxiliary, the WMU, Training Union and Sunday school.
She was a past Worthy Matron and Grand Martha of the Eastern Star. She loved to bowl, and was inducted into the Baldwin County Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. In 1977, she was elected by the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce as their inaugural Woman of the Year.
Her love of life was huge and she had a smile that would brighten your worst day. Her home was always open, no matter what, and she would most likely have a cup of coffee and a slice of Swedish coffee bread awaiting you.
Josephine leaves behind to celebrate her life, her husband of 67 years Malcolm “Bub” Fosberg; her son, Larry (Betty) Fosberg; and her daughter, Sandra (John) Boyd; grandchildren, Amanda (Allen) Borden, Brent Bonner, Holly (Charlie) Padgett and Tug (Cristin) Fosberg; six very special great-grandchildren, Sierra and Eli Bonner, Drew and Sadie Padgett, and Conner and Annison Fosberg; five siblings, Charles Douglas, Margie Jones, Kate Macon, Laura Gates and Wayne Douglas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Sammie and Willie Douglas; one sister-in-law, Marion Fosberg; and one very special great-grandson, Jacob Reid Fosberg.
Services for Mrs. Fosberg will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. from the Silverhill First Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Smith officiating.
A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Silverhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her name to Silverhill First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 246, Silverhill, AL 36576, or Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Road, Ste. D, Daphne, AL 36526, who in her final days gave her the love and dignity that she deserved.
