Joseph Clyde Bass, born Oct. 8, 1919 in Slocomb, Ala., died peacefully in his sleep at home on Aug. 5, 2013 in Fairhope.
He retired at the rank of captain after a 21-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He also retired after a second career from the State of Alabama Highway Department, where he worked as a project auditor.
He was a member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church, where he served for a time as the chairman of the Church Council and a member of the Church Finance Committee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Moye Bass; his parents, Joseph Erving Bass and Olevia T. Bass; one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his children, Peggy Jo (J.C.) McAleer and Richard E. (Dianne) Bass; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, from 11 a.m. to noon.
Graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens of Fairhope at 12:30 p.m.
