Joseph C. Durant Jr., 75, a native and resident of the Crossroads community of Bay Minette, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at his residence.
He worked in the research department (retired) at International Paper Co.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara A. Peaden Durant of Bay Minette; one son, Rodney Brian (Shawyne) Durant of Monticello, Ga.; one daughter, Jo Ann (Christopher) Pegues of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Ronald Eugene Durant of Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Gloria Durant (Jerry) Hart of Bay Minette, Linda Durant (Gene) Martin of Semmes and Nelda Durant (Jimmy) Nazary of Bon Secour; six grandchildren, Lauren A. Pegues, Kristen Durant Pegues (John) Gibson, Elisa Coney Pegues and Halee Joanna Pegues, all of Huntsville, and Joseph Rodney Durant and Lorelei Denise Durant, both of Monticello, Ga.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Durant Chapel Baptist Church, with Dr. Henry Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Durant Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m., at Durant Chapel Baptist Church.
Although the family will accept flowers, they suggest memorial contributions be made to Durant Chapel Building Fund, 9551 County Road 138, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
