John Walter Roll, 84, native of Chicago, and resident of Foley, died Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Mr. Roll was a Sargeant First Class U.S. Army (Ret). He served in the Korean Conflict and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served as a Green Beret. Mr. Roll was a past Post Commander of the VFW, Post 5658, Elberta and a life member of the American Legion, Gulf Shores.
He is survived by his wife, Mireille Roll, Foley; two daughters, Patricia (Bruce) Walstad, Foley, Anne (Steve) Odom, Orange Beach; three grandchildren, John Walstad, Omar Walstad, Alex Odom; six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Emily, Lauren, Alexis, Christopher and John; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be Monday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Interment will be Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of your choice.
