John Dozier Asbell, age 79, of Summerdale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 with his family at his side.
He was born in Macon, Ga., in 1933, the son of Francis Edward Asbell and John Bell Dozier Asbell. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and, after his service, worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as a civil service employee until his retirement in 1988. He married Winnie Lee Hutto in 1960 and lived his life as a devoted husband, a loving father, a compassionate citizen, and a devout Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Edward Asbell of Panama City, Helen Asbell of Atlanta, and Jesse Asbell of Atlanta. He is survived by his loving wife, Winnie Lee Asbell, and his adult children, Helen Elaine Asbell (Roger Clark) of San Antonio, Texas; John Edward Asbell of Edinburg, Texas; and Elizabeth Ann Asbell of Georgetown, Texas. A visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at 12 noon in the vestibule of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley, Alabama. The Rosary will be prayed at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral mass at 1:15 at the church. Interment will follow at St. Margaret’s of Scotland Catholic Church Cemetery.
