Joe Lucas Jones, 90, a native of Moorhead, Miss., a former resident of Mobile and resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
He graduated from Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, Miss. in 1939, where he was known as a prominent football player. He was a U.S. Air Force WWII veteran, and a former employee of Brookley Field. Mr. Jones was a 32nd-degree member of Masonic Lodge No. 69, member of the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diana E. Jones of Spanish Fort; daughter, Cecelia Jones Quin of McComb, Miss.; sister, Kathryn Walraven of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Cynthia (Kevin) Clingan of Franklin, Tenn. and Catherine (Gary) Holmes of Augusta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Catherine, Patrick and Caroline Clingan, all of Franklin, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Jones of Wheaton, Ill; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at 3 p.m., at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the charity of choice.
