MOBILE, Ala. — The Joe Jefferson Players in Mobile announce a special performance of the original musical, “Murder in the Music Hall,” to be held July 19. The event will include a preshow wine and hors d’ oeuvres reception beginning at 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 8:30.
The play is being performed royalty free with no overhead in order to raise funds for the theater. All musicians, actors and stage help are donating their time.
The play is a slapstick murder mystery musical comedy written by Mobilian Chris Kern in 2007. Set in 1866 post-war Mobile, it features corny one liners, sight gags, percussion rim shots and a variety of clichéd characters. It is also a show within a show, as the audience assumes the role of an audience in a music hall, watching as the show begins and then goes horribly, but hilariously, awry.
General admission at the door is $20 per person, $35 per couple.
