Baldwin County Commissioner James E. “Jeb” Ball announced he is running for re-election to the District 1 seat on the Baldwin County Commission.
A lifelong resident of Baldwin County, Ball said he wants to ensure steady leadership as the county continues to grow.
“For two terms now, the people of this county have trusted me to represent them, and every day I do everything I can to live up to that trust,” Ball said. “I am running again so that I can help provide steady, responsible leadership in the same way I have in my previous terms – with common-sense conservative values, good fiscal stewardship of taxpayer money and a keen focus on long-term planning and guided growth.”
Ball cited his work to bring the Novelis company to the South Alabama Mega Site as one of his top accomplishments. The project, he said, has created thousands of jobs and brought billions of dollars in investment to North Baldwin County.
“The Novelis plant is certainly a gamechanger for all of Baldwin County, but it especially affects my district in North Baldwin County where we have been primed and ready for growth for years,” Ball said. “Novelis is bringing high-paying jobs, increased revenues and a renewed sense of pride and excitement for this county.”
Other initiatives Ball highlighted during his tenure include securing millions of dollars for a new county jail, renovations to the Baldwin County Courthouse and the completion of a new District Attorney’s Office. He helped create the Baldwin County Solid Waste Authority, which brought a $25 million recycling facility to the county and launched the Landfill Gas to Energy project.
Ball also oversaw improvements to public amenities, including the new Boat Launch at the Intracoastal Waterway, the County Road 6 Boat Launch and the $4 million Baldwin County Animal Shelter. He invested $5 million in Baldwin County Public Schools for the Baldwin Preparatory Academy and completed renovations of the second floor of the Fairhope Courthouse to make Commission meetings more accessible to residents.
To address growth, Ball said he helped develop a new Strategic Plan, a new Comprehensive Plan and updates to the county’s subdivision regulations. He also remodeled Live Oak Landing and Bicentennial Park to expand public access and host more events.
Ball’s public service career spans more than three decades, including work as an Environmental Investigator in the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, service as a Court Referral Officer and founding Baldwin Substance Abuse Services Inc., where he continues to provide court-ordered substance abuse education programs.
He remains active in local organizations, including the Baldwin County Drug Court Board, the Community Action Agency of South Alabama and the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program. He is a member of the Baldwin County Republican Party, a graduate of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s PLAN Leadership Program and serves as Vice Chair of the Association of County Commissioners Workers’ Compensation Board.
“Baldwin County is my home — my family is here, my roots are here and I want to continue to serve the public as best I can in this role as Commissioner,” Ball said. “I’m running for re-election because I care deeply about our future and want Baldwin County to remain a place where our children are proud to live, build careers and raise their own families.”
Ball, a graduate of Baldwin County High School and Troy University, lives in Bay Minette with his wife and daughter. He has been active with City Hope Church, Malbis Campus for more than 13 years.
