SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Plans were revisited for construction of a J. C. Penney Department Store during a recent Spanish Fort Planning Commission workshop.

The retail conglommerate will be located at the Spanish Fort Town Center. Construction will begin in the near future of the anchor retail store, which be approximately 100,000 square feet. The planning commission requested last Monday more specific information regarding lighting and landscaping.

Other retail stores to anchor the Bass Pro Shop at the Spanish Fort Town Center will include Kohl’s and Circuit City.

The Spanish Fort Town Center will have 780,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, hotel and professional office space, according to a representative from Cypress Equities, the real estate development and acquisition firm and affiliate of The Staubach Company.

In other planning commission news:

• A subdivision plat review of property that is accessed through Blakeley Forest Subdivision at the end of O’Hara Drive was discussed. The owner, James Perry, said he had no preference as to whether the subdivision would be part of the neighborhood or have a different appearance or part of a homeowner’s association or not.

• Bartlett Landscape will use its location on the Causeway as a showplace for their putting greens and landscaping to promote their business to potential clients. A reperesentative for the company requested permission from the planning commission to place a small portable building with wheels intact which could be moved. The planning commission requested lighting information and photos.

• A revised site plan for a bait and tackle shop was reviewed. The planning commission has some concerns about allowing another portable building on the Causeway for a bait and tackle shop.

In observance of Veteran’s Day, the regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission was rescheduled. Officials will meet Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Prodisee Center.
