Janet Moss, a resident of Daphne, died Saturday, May 28, 2011.
She lost her battle against melanoma at Montrose Bay Area Rehabilitation Center, her daughter, Peyton; and mother, Jean, by her side.
She was born Feb. 25,1962 in Mobile to Glenn and Jean Southerland. In 1980, she graduated from Baker High School and went on to the University of South Alabama for a bachelors degree in business, with emphasis in marketing.
Known by everyone for her sweet heart and caring nature, she touched the souls of many she encountered in her life. She gave up a profitable job to stay at home with her children and raise them. Constantly, she was involved with the Baldwin County School System, the community, and her church. Eventually she became an appreciated substitute teacher in the Spanish Fort and Daphne schools.
Her interests were many, and to list all of them would take up an entire page. Some of her most favorite hobbies included reading, tending to the yard and gardens, cooking delicious meals and desserts, and spending time with her friends and family. An avid vacationer, she enjoyed getaways like going to the beach, hiking the mountains of Montreat, N.C., and going to Auburn to be with her daughter during the football games.
She is preceded in death by brother, Mark Alan Southerland.
Survivors include her husband, William Clifford “Trip” Moss III; two daughters, Peyton Elaine Moss and Taylor Claire Moss; her father, Glenn Addison Southerland, and mother, Melba Jean Southerland; numerous caring aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a wonderful loving friend, Debbie White Gibson.
Private burial will be at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church with Dr. Julian Walthall officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow in the fellowship hall.
The family requests memorial donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Melanoma Research Foundation.
