James Herman “Jimmy” Faulkner Jr. was a native and lifelong resident of Bay Minette. He died March 2, 2014 at age 75 after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Irwin Faulkner and James Herman Faulkner Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly McLeod Hultz Faulkner; five children, James Herman Faulkner III, Jenny Camp, Mary Jane Harris (Floyd), Rebecca Stewart (Andy) and Rachel Todd (Steve); 10 grandchildren; his brother, Dr. Henry Wade Faulkner (Ann); two stepchildren, Roxanne Hultz Chance and Wilfred R. Hultz III (Tammy); and four step-grandchildren.
He attended Indian Springs School in Indian Springs, graduated from Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette in 1956, graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1958, receiving an associate in arts degree and then graduated from the University of Alabama in 1960, receiving a bachelor of science in commerce and business administration degree. While at the University of Alabama, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Jimmy served as an officer in the United States Army and in the Alabama National Guard.
At one time, he was a co-owner of several Baldwin County newspapers, including the Baldwin Times, Delta Oil Co. and Minute Stop Inc. At the time of death, he was the owner of Faulkner Realty and Faulkner Insurance.
He was a past president of the Alabama Press Association.
In 1970-71, he served as the president of the Bay Minette Rotary Club. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International presented him with the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
In 1992, he served as the president of the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. He received the Harry Still Sr. Award for his outstanding efforts on behalf of the Bay Minette Public Library.
In 2005, the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce named him “Citizen of the Year.”
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Bay Minette Church of Christ on Pine Street, with the funeral services following at 11. Billy Lambert will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Tom McMillian, Tom Mitchell, Don Robinson, Buddy Steele, Taylor Wilkins and Bob Wills.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
