James Gregory “Greg” Sharpless

James Gregory "Greg" Sharpless, died surrounded by his family on Oct. 26, 2017 in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 48.

Greg is survived by his parents, Lamar and Sandra Sharpless of Orange Beach, Alabama; his wife, Karen (Thomas) Sharpless; his son, James Thomas "Thomas" Sharpless of Marietta, Georgia; his sister, Rita Thome (James) of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, Scott Sharpless (Sheila) of Rogers, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Greg was born Sept. 5, 1969 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Lamar and Sandra Sharpless. He was a graduate of Foley High School, Foley, Alabama, and The University of Alabama where he earned a bachelor of science in marketing (1993). He was the mascot "Big Al" for the University of Alabama.

Greg was a proud Eagle Scout and was passionate about scouting and teaching young men the important skills for life. He was involved as an assistant troop master for Troop 1011 and especially enjoyed his latest great adventure, attending the 2017 Boy Scouts of America National Scouting Jamboree in West Virginia with his son, Thomas.

Greg had a passion for cars of all types. A highlight for him was being seen in the NBCSN TV show "Caffeine and Octane." He and his beloved 1942 Packard were recently featured in a movie being filmed in Newnan, Georgia.

Greg's closest friends knew him as "Radar," because he could always find a deal for anything. He had a reputation for being honest and kind, and he always lent a helping hand when needed.

Greg was loved by many and made a positive and lasting impact in countless lives. He will be deeply missed by his family.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, 11 a.m., at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Greg's life.

In lieu of flowers, a college fund is being created for Greg's son, James Thomas "Thomas" Sharpless.
