James Daniel Horn

James Daniel Horn, 95, a native of McKenzie and a resident of Vicksburg, Miss., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at River Regions Hospital in Vicksburg.

He was chief of police for the City of Gulf Shores and the City of Daphne; also chief deputy for Taylor Wilkins; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Wilkins Horn; four grandchildren, Jud Nelson, Bryan Nelson, Sabra Smith and Cindy Criswell; and one great-grandchild, Stacy Russell.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Horn (John) Gilmore of Vicksburg, Miss., Carol (Clarence) Nelson of Barnwell and Elaine Criswell of Theodore; sister, Maude Vance of Memphis, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cox officiating. Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Horn, John Gilmore, Jr., Shannon Gilmore, Darryl Nelson, Shawn Criswell and Todd Criswell.
