James Allen “Jimmy” Wilson, 72, a native of Haleyville, Ala. and resident of Gulf Shores, died Friday, July 26, 2013.
Jimmy was a member of the 1961 University of Alabama National Championship Football Team, and played for Coach Bear Bryant from 1958 through the 1962 season.
He graduated from the University of Alabama and attended Howard College of Law (Samford University). While attending Howard he was an assistant coach for his former high school coach, Bubba Scott.
He served four years with the Alabama Air National Guard.
He and his lovely wife, Jimmie, moved to Haleyville in 1966, and began working at Frontier Homes in sales. Later he became a self-employed supplier to the mobile home industry.
In 1988, he moved his family to Foley and began Wilson Candy and Pecan Co.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Roberson; and brothers, Burch Wilson, Jerry Wilson and Truman Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Marie Wilson of Gulf Shores; son, Patrick Bryant (Sandra) Wilson of Haleyville; grandchildren, James Allen Wilson II, Patrick Bryant Wilson II and Kensley Snow Wilson, all of Haleyville; and a sister, Ruth Maxwell of Hamilton, Ala.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, with the visitation from 5 p.m. until time of service.
