James Albert Nelson

James Albert Nelson, 70, a native of Springfield, Mo., and a resident of Mobile, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at home.

He retired from Union Carbide/UOP where he worked as a technical manager for 36 years.  After retirement, he also served as associate director of the Bay Area Food Bank for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Albert Nelson and Ernestine Burns Nelson; and brother, William F. Nelson.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mildred Ann Cash Nelson of Mobile; four sons, Ralph A. (Norsidah) Nelson of Savoy, Ill., David E. (Debbie) Nelson of Roanoke, Va.,  Albert S. (Tanya) Nelson of Mobile and Michael B. (Sherry) Nelson of Basking Ridge, N.J.;  daughter, Pamela M. (Alan) O’Hara of Loxley;  two brothers, Albert T. (Penny) Nelson of Louisville, Ky., and Ernest R. Nelson of Mayfield, Ky.;  four sisters, Mary R. (Donald) Elder and Patricia E. Nelson, both of Mayfield, Ky.,  Martha M. (Tucker) Thomas of Louisville, Ky., and Ann K. (Howell) Carr of Mayfield; and 11 grandchildren, Amirah, Arif, Amanda, Helen, Elizabeth, Sanden, Mary Evan, Brandt, Hayden, Shannon and Ryan.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16 at Little Flower Catholic Church with Father John Lynes as Celebrant.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mobile Bay Area Food Bank.
